There is a common expectation that, in the Pagan experience, Gods are up front. If they want something you'll know. Ranging from what can only be called pushy to what can honestly be described as simply direct. Thunderous Thor, to-the-point Athena, and commanding Isis aren't what most people would call subtle. But there are others who are, or at least who tend to be.
Hailing from the islands of the Mediterranean, and with far more raucous relatives, are two Gods who are tied from birth, who take a longer approach to things. Twinned siblings, brother and sister, the realms they claim are distant and protective. Tending to the farseeing and preserving.
In the classical world Apollo (commonly seen as Apollon) and Artemis were honored in more out of reach places. Apollo famously had a seats at Delos (a jagged sea town) and Delphi, a place that even today is a trek to reach. It was popular in it's heyday, but even then the journey was said to be part of the wisdom gained. I want to be clear here, wisdom was the point. Above the entryway was a simple phrase that translates to "Know Thyself". A poignant reminder that, all too often, what we seek to know is already within if we have the courage to look.
Artemis was honored in her own fitting way. Also honored in Delos(where she took her role as a midwife), she was central in the area of Arcadia(region of Athens), and the island of Leros. Beyond these places she was honored in the wilderness, along side streams and in forest paths, but most noticeably where hunted animals were butchered and an offering could be left in thanks.
Apollo and Artemis are Olympic Gods, they are the children of Zeus and Leto who was turned into a swan to remain hidden. Coming from this line their powers are something we can all use from time to time.
